Valentine’s Day is here, and for singles, this can be a painful and lonely time. If you are single and dreading Valentine’s Day, then this article is for you! Here I want to address how to be single on Valentine’s Day.
You can be happy, don’t fret, so here are a few tips!
1. Grab a single friend and go out
If the thought of staying home alone on Valentine’s night is sheer dread, then grab a single friend (or several) and create a night of fun for yourselves! Get out and do something enjoyable!
Restaurants will be filled with couples and romantic dinner dates, so perhaps go see a movie you’ve been dying to see, go hear some live music, or go to a bar and have drinks with your friend and laugh about life. There is nothing like laughter with good friends to cheer you up.
2. Make a Valentine date with yourself
If there are no single friends available to head out the door with on Valentine’s Day, then make a Valentine date with yourself!
Snuggle up in your favorite, most comfortable clothing, read a good book, watch a feel-good movie, take a luxurious hot bath to relax, write in your journal, make a delicious special meal for yourself, order out, do something creative or work on a hobby or a personal interest.
Make yourself your own great date! Enjoy your solitude and peace. Enjoy your own company! So think of all the things you could do for yourself on this day to keep yourself happily engaged in activities you most enjoy.
3. Make a date with a friend of the opposite sex
Another possibility for Valentine’s Day is if you have a good friend of the opposite sex you would like to spend time with.
Who says Valentine’s Day needs to be just for couples? You can have a nice dinner date with your friend. You most certainly can have a platonic date!
4. Send friends and family messages of love and appreciation
When we feel alone, by reaching out to friends and family and sharing your love for them, this can help you to feel greatly loved in return. So send out Valentine’s Day wishes of love and appreciation to your friends and family members! Spread the love, and you will get love in return!
This helps to lessen feelings of loneliness and sadness when single on Valentine’s Day.
5. Remind yourself that being single is not permanent
It is important to realize that this period of being single doesn’t have to last forever. If you really want a relationship in your life, and no matter how bad things have been in the past, there is always someone new that can come along who is just right for you. So even though you may be alone now, this state doesn’t have to be permanent.
The key is to learn from the past and also to know what you want and are looking for in a partner. Perhaps spend some time on Valentine’s Day thinking about what you truly want and need in a partner. This is very helpful for finding just the right one and for eliminating the mismatches while you are dating.
6. Enjoy being single
Being single has some great advantages! It’s a great opportunity to work on oneself and one’s own life. It’s a great time for self-reflection and self-realization. So look to the positive!
Don’t fall into the trap of negative thinking! Take advantage of this solo time. Think about who you are, what you want, and what your goals and dreams are. These things are all so important to establish before getting into a serious commitment with someone.
The more stable and secure you are as person, the more attractive you become to other emotionally stable and secure people. And this is ultimately what you want in order to have a healthy and positive relationship.
So rather than moping about the fact that you are single, appreciate this time, even on Valentine’s Day. It is just one more day after all. Remember this as well.
Also remember that not all couples you see are actually happy. Many are not happy, and Valentine’s Day can often times serve as a band aid for the unhappier times. So remember this fact.
So there you have it – a few tips on how to be single on Valentine’s day! Being single on Valentine’s Day does not mean it has to be miserable and awful! It can be a fun-filled day, if you make it into one!
And here’s to your happiness!
